My family were heavily involved in football. I had five brothers and we were always playing football on the road. My father was chairman of the Leinster Senior League so it started from there. He later become a legislator in the Leinster Football Association. My brother Michael played for Ireland.
To keep improving and for the children to enjoy their football. It is important for a child to be involved in sport. I love to see past players come back to manage teams themselves. It makes me proud and I'm sure Bower would be too.
I followed Shelboure F.C. at the time. I admired Peter Farrell who played for Shamrock Rovers who later became an Irish International.
There are so many good memories. I would be here all day if I had to talk about the good times! And there are still more to come.
My friend Bower and I wanted a better life for young boys in the area. Football was a source of freedom for them. It was joyous to be involved in such a great time in their lives. Our ambition was to win trophies and cups, and we did over the years. And to expand the club – give more kids the opportunity to play.
As our motto says, Strength through Loyalty.
